Jobi joyful after opening account

Posted on: Mon 02 Nov 2009

Jobi McAnuff has spoken of his delight after a superb match-winning display at the Ricoh Arena, as the winger grabbed a goal and two assists in the vital 3-1 victory over Coventry City.

The former Watford man was a constant threat on the right side of midfield, crossing for Grzegorz Rasiak to open the scores within the first 30 seconds.

"Obviously it was good to start with a goal, it sounds funny but sometimes you can score too early - but we continued on from that and it was a good performance. Grzegorz is a great targetman to play with and you've just got to try and get him the ball as much as you can.

"It was a great team performance. When we play like that it's a joy to play in my position because you get plenty of the ball and it gives me a chance to go and attack the defenders, which is my job."

A win over the Sky Blues has presented us with the opportunity to enter the international break with two straight victories, as Roy Keane's Ipswich Town travel to the Madejski Stadium this coming weekend. And Jobi is determined that the squad will capitalise on their new found momentum.

"We know we've got the ability, it's just a matter of going out there and doing it on a regular basis. Ipswich is a big one for us; once we get the home form sorted we can really kick on. We've got to go positive after winning on Saturday. If you look at the teams we've played so far the majority of them are in the top half of the table, and although we should have done better in a few of the games we're hoping that the matches coming up will allow us to go on a bit of a run.

"Since I've been in the team I've enjoyed it personally, I know the manager well and his play suits me down to the ground. I've enjoyed myself and probably not got the rewards, in assists and goals, that I should have done - but it was nice to do that on Saturday."

If McAnuff is enjoying playing under Brendan Rodgers then the feeling is very much mutual, and the Northern Irish boss moved to praise his summer signing following the victory.

Rodgers said: "He's been excellent since he came here, both on and off the field. He's a good lad and a great mentor for many of our younger players. but he's also produced on the field. The supporters have taken to him because he has movement, pace and quality - but importantly he also works for the team. He was outstanding, like the team."
