Reading's second string picked up a creditable 2-2 draw with Bristol City on Tuesday evening, in a game that saw Chris Armstrong and Oliver Bozanic make their respective comebacks from injury.
Armstrong put in a 45 minute shift whilst Bozanic managed over an hour on the field, and the Australian will now return to his loan spell at Cheltenham Town after coming through the fixture unscathed.
Nigel Gibbs' side were two goals up within 20 minutes, as youngster Jake Taylor grabbed an early brace at Cherrywood Road.
His first was created by fellow scholar Abdulai Bell-Baggie, who burst into the area before squaring for Taylor to confidently tap home.
The second had an element of fortune to it as a cross deflected into the path of the Royals youngster, though he still had plenty of work to do as he steered the ball past Adriano Basso from ten yards.
With Armstrong leaving the field at the end of the first half Reading had more defending to do in the second period and had their work cut out as David Clarkson headed home for the Robins after 53 minutes, and despite some admirable defending in the remainder of the game the home side had to settle for a point as Marlon Jackson rifled home a heartbreaking last minute goal.
"It was a good result for us against a very experienced side, though obviously I'm disappointed we conceded in the last minute," said manager Gibbs.
"They scored early in the second half but the boys stuck to their task well and dealt with their pace and power. It was excellent to see Chris and Oliver back; they both looked like they'd never been away."
