Gylfi delighted with new deal

Posted on: Wed 02 Dec 2009
Gylfi Sigurdsson has reiterated his delight at signing a new three year deal with the Royals, though admitted he was disappointed after the 2-1 defeat to Derby County at Pride Park.

The Icelandic midfielder bagged his second goal in as many games with a trademark finish shortly before the hour mark, but was helpless to prevent the Rams from fighting back to pick up all three points.

"We weren't good enough after we scored, we should have taken the game to them and controlled it," he said.

"It was good to get a goal but I would have preferred the three points. They were there for the taking, but the niggles went against us and that's the way it goes sometimes when you're away from home. We need to get on with it now and prepare for next Saturday.

"I'm here for another two and a half seasons now, I always wanted to be here when I came here at the age of 15 so I'm happy to be here for another three years."

The academy product will be looking for his fifth goal of the season as Brendan Rodgers' men travel to face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, and Gylfi insists that confidence will still be high ahead of the Hillsborough trip.

"Sheffield Wednesday are a good team but we go into every game now thinking we can win, and if we play well there and play our football then we'll be flying."
