Live updates
2.22pm - Brian McDermott has made one change from the team that drew with Swansea on Boxing Day - replacing Grzegorz Rasiak with Simon Church in the starting eleven. Rasiak drops to the bench while Shaun Cummings misses out on the trip to Argyle.

2.48pm - The two sets of players are warming up out there. The pitch looks like it has seen better days, it's cutting up quite a lot.

2.57pm - Kingsley is pitchside. He's made it all the way down to the south-west to roar us on. The teams are about to come out from the tunnel I think.

2 mins - The early pressure is coming from the hosts and a Mackie header is easily plucked out of the air by Federici. Bertrand then has to head behind under pressure at the far post but Long nods away the corner.

6 mins - Very scrappy, hurried and flustered from both sides. Miskicks aplenty - I'm sure the pitch has had a part to play in that.

9 mins - Sigurdsson's free kick is easily cleared and Argyle try to break. Matejovsky steps in but concedes a foul in halting the Plymouth break away.

12 mins - PENALTY. Ingimarsson lunges in needlessly on MAckie on the left edge of the box and the referee points to the spot. Ingimarsson can have few complaints. Alan Judge steps up and smashes it home past Federici.

17 mins - Long wins a corner which McAnuff delivers. Pearce flicks it on at the near post but Sigurdsson's redelivery into the box finally ends in Larrieu's hands after a scrambled clearance.

22 mins - Reading pass it well and Gunnarsson crosses from the right. It falls to McAnuff's feet who stabs a shot and it strikes an Argyle man on the penalty spot. McAnuff seems convinced it's a penalty for handball but the referee gives nothing.

24 mins - At the other end Mackie aims a floated header towards the top right corner but Federici watches it well wide.

25 mins - Pearce hoofs a ball long and Long dummies it to allow it to run in behind the back line. Church is onto it and he rounds Larrieu but the referee blows his whistle for offside on Long apparently.

30 mins - A cross from the left finds Fallon unmarked in the box and he nods it back across Federici who athletically turns it wide. Fallon is flagged for offside anyway.

31 mins - Reading lose a runner on the right and a low cross is fizzed into the middle. Ingimarsson is there to sidefoot it behind but it goes painfully close to nestling in the bottom right corner. Thankfully the Royals skipper can breathe again and the corner is cleared by Long.

37 mins - Long wins a free kick with a good burst down the right. Bertrand whips it in but it;s got too much on it and Larrieu dives to gather it into his body.

43 mins - Reading are not playing well. Plymouth aren't doing much to enthral the crowd either. The game is not much of a spectacle at the moment.

45 mins - A ray of light, McAnuff weaves inside three or four men and then shoots left-footed towards the bottom corner. Larrieu has to get down well to bundle it wide of his woodwork. Two Royals corners are wasted, Sigurdsson getting a shot away from the first only to see it deflect well wide.

HALF TIME - Not a great advert for Championship football. The Royals will need to be better and cope with the conditions better if they are to claw their way back from this one.

Jimmy Kebe is stripped off and warming up out there. It looks like McDermott is going to make a change at the break. He has replaced Matejovsky.

52 mins - It's not got much better in the second half. Kebe has tried to liven things up on the left wing but it hasn't quite worked yet.

53 mins - Gunnarsson has to come across to marshall Fallon away from goal but Fallon knocks it on to Clarke in acres of space bursting forward on the left. He shoots and it skims the outside of the left upright. That was close!

58 mins - GOAL! A corner from the right is delivered and Arnason rises high above everyone to power a header inside the bottom left corner. Far to easy for Argyle who now lead by two!

59 mins - Royals sub: Rasiak is on for Long.

60 mins - GOAL! Reading have one back. McAnuff's corner is toed goalwards by Rasiak who has his effort cleared off the line. McAnuff redelivers though and Sigurdsson heads it home from yards out!

61 mins - GOAL! Plymouth have the two-goal advantage again. A good move down the left is finished off by Judge's near post header.

65 mins - Pilgrims sub: Craig Noone is on for Judge.

68 mins - Pilgrims sub: Fallon is replaced by Barnes.

71 mins - Kebe wins a free kick on the left and Sigurdsson takes it. He goes for goal at the near post but Larrieu is alive to it and pushes it wide for a corner.

72 mins - Barnes tries his luck from the edge of the box at the other end and Federici has to scurry across his line to put it wide for a corner.

79 mins - Pilgrims sub: Summerfield is replaced by Yoann Folly.

83 mins - GOAL! Plymouth have another. Barnes reacts quickest to a loose ball that Federici can only push out to the edge of his six yard area and he stabs it home.

89 mins - The sooner the ref blows his whistle and we can all go home the better. This has been an afternoon to forget for the Royals.

90 mins - Three minutes more to play.

FULL TIME - Time to head back up the M5 and along the M4. Not one for the memory bank. Let's forget 2009 all together and start afresh in 2010!
