Jem backs Mills to shine

Posted on: Thu 04 Feb 2010

Jem Karacan has backed Matt Mills to put in a performance against his old club this weekend, as the Royals prepare for a trip to Doncaster Rovers.

The former Manchester City centre back arrived at Madejski Stadium from 'Donny' this summer, and after a tough start to life in Berkshire has timed a run in the first team perfectly for a clash against his former paymasters.

"You always want to do well against your former clubs and I'm sure he will do, he's been brilliant since he's come back in the team," said the Turkish under-21 international.

"He's got a real good rapport with Ivar at the back and the rest of the defenders and hopefully he can keep that going."

Jem was also quick to praise the rest of the Reading backline, citing the experienced addition of Andy Griffin as key to a more resolute looking line-up.

"'Griff' has got a wealth of experience and he's done brilliantly since he's come over. All of the back four have; Ivar has done well and Bert's one of the stand out performers for me. 'Feds' has been brilliant and it just shows how well everyone's doing back there."

At the other end of the pitch Karacan is still searching for his first goal of the season, and admits that the entire team must contribute if they are to pull away from the relegation zone.

"We have to be more ruthless in front of goal and maybe finish games off earlier. I need to work on my finishing a little bit more and hopefully it'll come, we do need to get more goals from all around the team and I've got to take a bit of the blame as I haven't got enough."
