The John Madejski Academy are currently in their first year of running their Girls Football Studies programme which is supported by Reading Football Club.
The course is run for girls aged 16 to 19 years of age and supports girls who want to pursue a career in football whether it be as a player, as a coach, or maybe via a scholarship in America.
This course also accommodates girls who do not necessarily want to pursue a career in football but would still like to train everyday and play for the team.
The John Madejski Academy course is totally unique in that it offers A-Levels to students whilst still enabling them to train everyday and play every week.
And alongside doing their A-levels or a Dipolma the girls have the opportunity to take the Level 1 and Level 2 football coaching qualifications along with an NVQ in football coaching!
The school currently has 12 girls who attend the John Madejski Academy Football Studies Course. The squad is currently playing in the English Colleges League where they get to play against other colleges around the South of England.
The course has had a very successful year so far with two of the girls, Danielle Puddefoot and Grace Moloney, being selected for England Colleges where they went through a process of trials.
The girls have already played against Australia Schools and are also off to Estonia for a week to play their national squad. Moloney is also currently in the Republic of Ireland squad for both the under-17s and under-19s.
The squad is also in the National Schools Cup where they have reached the semi-finals in a competition that saw 189 teams across the country compete.
The John Madejski Academy are now recruiting for the next intake of our Girls Football Studies Course for 16-19 year olds. This course begins in September 2010.
This course is for girls that are looking develop in their football alongside their studies. and will complete their Level 1 and Level 2 Certificate in Football Coaching and their NVQ Level 1 and 2 in Coaching Football alongside studying for the A-levels of their choice if they choose to.
Kelly Chambers, the girls' Head Coach and Reading Women skipper said "I feel this is an excellent course in a fantastic school. I believe that this course is brilliant for girls who have an interest in football and also want to study.
"The school has top class facilities with the use of the 3G pitch, gym, sports hall and it is set up to always help the student in what they want to achieve.
