Church earns seventh cap

Posted on: Thu 04 Mar 2010
Simon Church won his seventh Wales cap on Wednesday evening as John Toshack's team were edged out 1-0 at home to Sweden.

Church started the game at the Liberty Stadium and played 53 minutes. His best opportunity in front of goal came just after half time when a shot was deflected into his path but was just too quick for him to get on the end of.

Our on-loan defender Zurab Khizanishvili played 60 minutes and helped Georgia to a 2-1 home friendly win over Estonia in front of 30,000 in Tbilisi.

Ryan Bertrand played 90 minutes for England's u21s as they went down 2-1 against Greece at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium. Our young 'keeper Alex McCarthy, currently on loan at Yeovil, was in the squad but just missed out on the final 18 for the game.

Mikkel Andersen played the full 90 minutes and pulled off some good saves as Denmark's under 21 side were beaten 3-0 in Austria.

Scott Davies was away with Ireland's under 21s and was an unused sub as they went down 2-1 at home to Armenia.

On Tuesday evening Shane Long was an unused substitute as Ireland went down 2-0 to Brazil in a friendly encounter at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium. Gylfi Sigurdsson was in Germany with Iceland's under 21s, but missed out because of an ankle injury.
