Paula Martin, Chairman of the Reading FC Supporters' Trust STAR, has expressed her pride after the team's historic run in the FA Cup this season.
We fell at the hands of Aston Villa on Sunday, having reached the quarter finals for the first time since way back in 1927 - while also reaching the top of the Coca-Cola Championship form table over the same period.
She wrote, 'Thank you for the fun! Once the disappointment of 'those 12 minutes' fades a little, the memory of this cup run is going to last in supporters' minds for a long time (or until we do actually make the final in 2011!).
'The feeling of a last minute goal taking an away fixture into extra time is such an adrenaline rush, so to be treated to it twice in one season is just wonderful. These are the emotions that make us forget the league losses, but to achieve it against teams that everyone assumed just had to turn up to win gives us a reason to hold our heads up within the football world and makes us all so proud of the team and the effort they have put in over the cup run.'
'We are so proud of the whole team that have managed to turn the feeling of pessimism into one of optimism with the way they have played throughout the cup games. It means that saying that we can now concentrate on the league is not just a cliché but reality.
'We can even say that a run of good results in the next few games will leave us dreaming of emulating Crystal Palace a few seasons ago when they not only made the play-offs but as the form team and got promoted!! So it may seem like a dream - but that is what beating Liverpool, Burnley and West Brom was and look what happened!'
