Help For Heroes events this weekend

Posted on: Sat 13 Mar 2010

Reading Football Club are proud to be taking part in the Football League campaign Football For Heroes, supporting the League's official charity Help For Heroes.

Saturday's upcoming home game with Bristol City is our designated fixture during this campaign, and the club are happy to contribute in a number of ways:

• A minute's silence will be held for Richard Green and all soldiers risking their lives for our country. Cpl Green, from Tilehurst, lost his life in Afghanistan earlier this month.

• Six soldiers who worked alongside Cpl Green will lead the teams out onto the pitch: Lcpl Matt Snow, Cpl Aaron Kitts, Rfn Jamie Harris, Lcpl Greg Estcourt, Cpl Nick Fowler & Cpl Matt Bridson. Richard's mother Eileen and her family have been invited to attend the game.

• A charity collection for Help for Heroes will be held outside the ground before the game. Eight soldiers from 42 Engineers Regiment in Hermitage will be asking supporters to make donations.

• Both managers will wear Help for Heroes wristbands and a Help for Heroes banner will be held in our official centre circle photo. Young Royals competition winners will parade the Help for Heroes banner.

• The Club supported the Value for Valour campaign by offering all service members in the UK a two-for-one ticket promotion for Saturday's game. We also participate in the Tickets For Troops campaign, offering a block of tickets for every game for just £1 each.

• Francesca Yates, Royal British Legion Community Fundraiser for Berkshire, will be presented with a four-figure cheque at half time. This money was raised by the auction of Poppy Appeal shirts worn by the team for our game against Ipswich Town on Saturday 7th November.

• Two Community Trust coaches this week visited Warrant Officer's Mess at Arborfield for a Q&A session with the REME football team, and the soldiers have been invited to the game.

• Kingsley is running the Reading Half Marathon to raise money for Help for Heroes - donate at www.justgiving.com/kingsley13

• A Football League Help for Heroes football signed by the Reading FC players will be auctioned by the Football League to raise money for Help for Heroes.
