Gylfi looks to extend fantastic form

Posted on: Tue 16 Mar 2010

Reading's top goalscorer Gylfi Sigurdsson has urged the Royals to continue their push up the Championship table, after his match winning brace against Bristol City made it seven wins in eight league games for Brian McDermott's men.

The young Icelander bagged his 11th and 12th goals of the season in the first half at Madejski Stadium, and says that his teammates are looking to continue their top form against Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday evening.

"The most important thing is to get as high as we can in the table and get as many wins under the belt as possible before the last month of the season. A few teams will be struggling down there then and we want to make sure we are out of it by then," he said.

"We need to keep going, we need to recover in time for the game on Tuesday and be ready for when we start playing again. We need another three points to go even higher up the table."

The home side controlled proceedings from start to finish this past weekend, earning a victory that pushed them up to 16th in the Championship.

"It was important to get a result against Bristol City, they're a good team and we started the game really well, got two goals early on and then it was just about keeping a clean sheet in the second half - which we did.

"I thought I could have got a hat-trick in the first half to be fair! I tried to shoot from everywhere but it wasn't to be, though it's just good to get the three points.

"I don't really mind where on the pitch I play, as long as I'm playing I'm happy. I think I'm more comfortable in the middle of the park but I don't really mind."

Tickets for Tuesday night's game are on general sale now to all Member Card holders. Telephone 0844 249 1871, use the online ticketing service or visit in person.
