Tabb revels in positive mood

Posted on: Sat 20 Mar 2010

Jay Tabb has revealed that the Royals squad are in positive mood as they prepare for a trip to Middlesbrough this weekend, off the back of eight league wins in their last nine outings.

Brian McDermott's side took a maximum haul of 12 points from their four successive Championship fixtures at Madejski Stadium this past month, and will look to continue that form against Gordon Strachan's men on Saturday afternoon.

"Everyone's happy and in a good mood, the sun is shining at the training ground and everyone seems in good spirits," he said.

"We've got a big game on Saturday and we can forget what we've done in the last ten games and just try and focus on Middlesbrough. We have to keep that run going, along with the consistency of the performances."

The former Coventry man picked up the man of the match award after a typically tenacious display in the 1-0 win over QPR on Tuesday night, a victory which he feels was well earned.

"In the first half we probably didn't play at as high a tempo than we have in some of our home games but that was credit to them. They came out, put us under plenty of pressure and didn't give us much time.

"Obviously their manager knew what our strengths were and they tried to cancel them out which they did quite well in the first half. I thought it was quite an even game, then it changed, the second half we played pretty well - even with ten men they are still a good side, they have a lot of good players and were very organised.

"We had two shots cleared off the line though and a few other chances so I think we were worthy of the win."

A keen racing fan , Tabb has also been keeping a close eye on recent events at the Cheltenham Festival - something he admits helps to relax him in the run up to big games.

"I manage to watch the first two races, and then have a sleep in the afternoon before the game like most footballers do. I'd say everything I watch so far has been great - though I haven't backed many winners!

"It's been good to watch, it's been great racing because all the horses are in such great form it's hard to pick a winner."
