Boss on Leicester and more

Posted on: Sat 28 Aug 2010
Royals boss Brian McDermott is keen to erase the memory of our midweek Carling Cup exit when we take on Leicester City this Saturday, kick off 5:20pm, live on Sky Sports 2.

We travel to the Walkers Stadium looking for an important first npower Championship win of the campaign, and Brian said, "You can't dwell on it being a first win, you just take each one on its merits.

"I just want the players to go out, play with freedom, give everything they've got and if we do that we'll win games. It's a good place to go, a tough place to go, a real football town and we're looking forward to it. I like it there, they have a great atmosphere.

"We went up there last season and had a really good game. A Paulo Sousa side will look to play and will be well organised, but most important is for us to go there and do our stuff. We've been to Portsmouth, which I think will be one of the toughest places to go this season, we got a result there and we want to do well again this weekend."

McDermott remains disappointed with a number of aspects of Tuesday's game, most importantly our own performance but also that of the referee Mr East. He is keen to move on quickly, and the best medicine would be three points at the Walkers Stadium.

He said, "Tuesday was a game where we didn't play well, didn't perform well, didn't pass it well - but we should've won 3-2. If we'd won it I would have said it wasn't what we wanted, it wasn't a good performance but we won. The referee at the end, I've seen the video of the last four minutes and it was two unbelievable decisions which were really poor. We should have had a penalty, even the ball went out of play for a corner for us but the game played on, and well into injury time.

"It was a strange game, the defending was a bit bizarre at times and to go ahead three times and not win was not good enough, but we draw a line under that competition and concentrate on the league. We have to move on, there's nothing we can do and we've got Leicester on Saturday and we go there looking to win."

Live commentary from the game will available on Reading FC Player, and you can bet on the action at Coral online
