The Royals' new deadline day signing is keen to try to repeat last season's goal scoring feat as an npower Championship player.
Former Leeds United and Levante left back Ian Harte topped Carlisle United's goalscoring charts in 2009/10, scoring 18 goals in total...from centre back!
"I played all of last season at centre half and to be top scorer from there doesn't happen very often," he told readingfc.co.uk.
"I think nine or ten of those were headers - it was all about the delivery into the box and the timing of the run.
"It was great to get a load of goals and nice to get the rewards for those goals in getting a move here this week. Hopefully I can score a few for Reading now."
Harte's move to Madejski Stadium came about very quickly, but the experienced defender joined in training with his new teammates this morning.
"The first I heard of the interest was on Saturday evening so it has happened pretty quick with the window closing.
"The manager wanted to know if I was interested in a move and, of course, I was. I've had a decent career so far, but I'm still very hungry.
"I've always believed I was capable of playing in the Championship but I just needed a club to give me an opportunity. Reading have given me that opportunity.
"I really enjoyed my time up at Carlisle - the people that run the club up there have been very good to me. And it's nice that they've let me go and given me the chance to come to a fantastic club like Reading.
"I saw Noel [Hunt] at the training ground in the morning and he told me it was a great club. The facilities up at Hogwood are brilliant and he told me there's a good bunch of lads here."
"So hopefully, with a few experienced heads here now and a good mix in the squad, we will be able to gel well as a team and get the results that we need."
Despite enjoying a fantastic career, Harte revealed he has never before played at Madejski Stadium - although he was an unused Black Cat substitute here in the Royals' 2-1 win over Sunderland in December 2007.
"I think I've been here once before with Sunderland. I remember we were playing against a lot of the Irish boys - Stephen Hunt, Doyle, Longy.
"It was a few years ago in the Premier League days. Now, with a few more players now coming in the door, hopefully we can push on and try to get back there."
He also understands his first Madejski Stadium appearance won't be handed to him on a plate.
"There are now quite a few left backs here and a number of centre halves as well - so it's going to be hard to break into the team. But I'm up for the challenge.
"I got a little elbow in the ribs in my last game for Carlisle, but everything's absolutely fine fitness-wise. I trained with Carlisle on Monday and now I'm raring to go."
