Key game for Hal, Simon & Jake

Posted on: Tue 07 Sep 2010
Wales' u21s take on Italy in an important UEFA qualifying match this evening, and if Brian Flynn's men avoid defeat then they will be guaranteed a spot in the two-legged qualifying stage.

Hal Robson-Kanu, Jake Taylor and now Simon Church are all in the squad for this evening's game in Pescara. Robson-Kanu scored the only goal of the game in the u21s, 1-0 win over Hungary at the weekend, while Taylor was an unused sub. Simon Church has joined up with the squad, having been with the full team for a qualifier last Friday.

Highlights from Saturday's game are online now at S4C's website: http://www.s4c.co.uk/sgorio/e_/2304hwn_cym, while action from tonight's match will be shown on the channel at 11:10pm in their Sgorio programme. S4C is on channel 134 for Sky TV users.

Wales are currently three points clear of their opponents and have a four-goal advantage in goal difference. If teams finish level on points then the qualifiers will be decided by head-to-head results. Wales beat Italy 2-1 in Swansea a year ago, meaning the Italians will progress if they win tonight's game by more than one goal.

A 1-0 victory would also be good enough for the Italians on away goals, but by the same criteria a 3-2 defeat would be enough for Wales. A 2-1 win for the Italians would leave both sides scratching their heads as UEFA consider a host of factors to decide who progresses.

Hal and Jake are pictured receiving two Wales caps before one of our recent home games.
