Armstrong & Ivar play in reserves draw

Posted on: Tue 12 Oct 2010

Ivar Ingimarsson scored on his comeback from injury on Tuesday afternoon, as the Royals reserves drew 1-1 with Brighton and Hove Albion at Hogwood Park.

Chris Armstrong [pictured] also made a crucial step in his rehabilitation by putting in an hour long shift for the second string - his first match action for just over a year.

Lee Hendrie was impressive in the centre of midfield and lasted the full ninety minutes, pulling the strings aided by a classy first touch.

Ingimarsson captained the side and played for 45 minutes, opening the scoring early on with a bullet header from a Scott Davies corner.

Young winger Jacob Walcott came close to doubling Reading's lead on the half hour mark as Davies whipped in another dangerous corner, but saw his snap shot well saved at the near post.

The visitors levelled with an unstoppable free-kick from Cristian Baz before the break, and came close to snatching a victory with a scrambled effort late on - only to be denied by the inside of the post.

"It was a good run out for the boys, there were some really pleasing aspects," said Eamonn Dolan.

"Chris Armstrong was fantastic, to be out for so long and then to come back and play like that is fantastic .

"Ivar played for 45 minutes and was his usual self. That's what he's like and that's why he and Chris have had the careers that they have.

"The manager was also able to have a good look at Lee Hendrie and he showed a terrific attitude."
