Late pen sees Arsenal snatch draw

Posted on: Thu 09 Sep 2010

Reading's under 18s were left to rue a late penalty as they were held 2-2 away to Premier League side Arsenal this past weekend.

Lawson D'Ath [pictured], who was on the bench for our first team in the Carling Cup earlier in the season, opened the scoring and Matt Partridge then double the advantage into the second half.

Josh Rees soon hit back for the Gunners, and a Jernade Meade penalty then levelled matters; Partridge also sent off following a melee.

Our boys performed very well against the top flight side, and could well have taken all three points.

In their previous game the under 18s narrowly lost to another Premier League side Manchester City, and once again we went down to ten men and were left to rue a late penalty.

Carl McHugh had levelled the game for Reading after City took an early lead, but Jordan Obita received an extremely harsh red card - before the Premier League side sealed all three points with a late spot kick.

In our first game, we won 1-0 at Sheffield United.
