Powerful striker who was plucked from Cork City's youth system in 2005 to become a full Irish international with Premier League experience.

Although initially viewed as 'one for the future', Shane's rapid progression in the first half of 2005/6 saw him earn a first team debut at the end of December, and three days later he scored a dramatic late equaliser at Derby to preserve the team's long unbeaten run. He continued to impress and scored twice in the 5-0 home win that earned the Championship in April.

He also performed well in the Premiership, and earned his first caps for Ireland in the early part of 2007, as well as scoring his first goals at Premiership and international level.

An integral part of our squad, he was handed the number 9 shirt in the summer of 2009, and really hit form in the second half of the season, scoring our historic winner at Liverpool in the FA Cup, and also netting twice against Aston Villa in our first FA Cup quarter final for 83 years.

Under Brian McDermott's tutelage he continued to find the back of the net with great regularity in 2010/11, and was also crowned the FAI's young player of the year in 2010.

The club fought off interest from a number of clubs in the January transfer window 2011 as his star continued to rise thanks to his wonderful form.
