Korean scores on his debut

Posted on: Wed 13 Feb 2008

Kim Wonsik scored on his debut for our under 18s in a 3-1 away win over Coventry on Saturday.

Korean forward Wonsik was joined by his compatriot Ji Dongwon on the bench, and both came on early in the second half against the Sky Blues.

Within five minutes, Wonsik had opened his account.

Wonsik and Dongwon joined the Royals back in the summer, and they have been training with our Academy before now receiving FIFA clearance for under 18s league games.

A third Korean signing Nam Taehee also arrived but he has been sidelined through injury recently. In a recent Q&A, first team winger Stephen Hunt described Nam as one of the best young prospects he has seen.

Also on target on Saturday were defender Patrick Cox and Iceland u21 midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, who too notched after coming off the bench.

We face Spurs at home this Saturday.

Reading: McCarthy; Spence, Lyskov, Cox, Mitchell; Bayley (c) (Sigurdsson 69), Webb, Frewen, Bignall (Wonsik 55); Illugason (Dongwon 55), Vasilev
