Recent youth signing Danny Joyce enjoyed two friendlies as captain of Ireland u17s last week. They played Bulgaria twice, winning the first game 2-0 before losing the second by the same score. Boss Sean McCaffrey said, "Danny is a good influence on the rest of the squad, both on and off the field. He was magnificent for us at the back on Tuesday and he'll be a main player in the campaign ahead."
Danny added, "I had never captained my country until Tuesday's first game, so I was delighted when Sean (McCaffrey) told me. It was a good performance by us against Bulgaria. We were comfortable in the first half, they pressed us for a while after half-time but we finished the game strongly and were worthy winners."
Jacob Walcott was away with England u17s at the start of the month, and helped them finish fourth in the Nordic Tournament. He started in three of their four games, coming on as a sub in the other match, and scoring in the third/fourth play-off with Denmark. He will be in action for the u17s later this month in a tournament against Italy, Portugal and Isreal across Anglia.
