Simon Church scored both goals for Wales' under 21s tonight but they were edged out 3-2 by England in the first leg of their UEFA play-off.

The young Reading forward, 19, now has six goals in nine appearances for Wales' under 21s, and opened the scoring with a very cool finish on 13 minutes after pressuring the English defence into an error; notching Wales' first ever goal against England at this level in the process.

Middlesbrough duo David Wheater and Adam Johnson put Stuart Pearce's team 2-1 up, but Church scored a cracking second with just seconds remaining of the first half.

He exquisitely took Aaron Ramsey's pass and opened up space for himself inside the box, finishing coolly to level the scores in front of a capacity Ninian Park crowd.

Unfortunately Gabriel Agbonlahor put England ahead on 62 minutes with a nice backheel, and they hold on to win.

The second leg will take place at Aston Villa's Villa Park this coming Tuesday evening.

Church was born in High Wycombe and came to Reading's Academy after being at Wycombe's centre of excellence. He has been on the bench for us in the Carling Cup, and spent the majority of last season on loan at Crewe then Yeovil Town.

This season he was loaned to Wycombe, but a harsh red card curtailed matters on his first start. The ban will soon be completed, and he is expected to re-sign for Peter Taylor's table-topping Chairboys.
