Royals under 18s fell to a painful defeat away to Birmingham City, as the Blues scored a 89th minute winner to end Reading's run of five games unbeaten.
Jake Taylor gave Eamonn Dolan's academy the lead with forty minutes on the clock, coolly slotting home from the spot after City right back Alpaslan Ozturk was caught out by a swift counter attack.
The hosts levelled a minute before half time when Brice Ntambwe headed home a free-kick, and hearts were broken seconds before the end as Fraser Kerr snatched all three points for the Midlanders.
"We played very well against Birmingham but unfortunately conceded a goal from a set play with the last kick of the first half, and conceded a goal with the last kick of the second half," said Dolan.
"It was disappointing to concede those goals but there are a lot of young defenders there that are learning and the old cliché is they need to learn from their mistakes. That way if they do progress to a higher level than they won't make those same mistakes at levels where it really matters .
