Playing For Success

Posted on: Fri 19 Jun 2009

Playing For Success is the study support scheme running at Madejski Stadium and targeted at pupils in Key Stages 2 and 3.

The programme is designed to compliment the work that pupils do in school. Schools send groups of 15 pupils who attend once a week for six to ten weeks for a three hourly session beginning at 3pm.

During the scheme pupils participate in activities designed to improve their skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT. They also take part in challenges that encourage logical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and the enhancement of self-esteem. Many of the activities are set in the context of football and Reading Football Club.

Fundamental to the success of this course is the support of Reading Football Club staff and players.

Funding
The scheme is funded by a three-way partnership with funding being provided by Reading Borough Council, Reading Football Club and the DCSF. The centre is also supported by some local companies who provide equipment, prizes and volunteers.

We are very keen to extend our range of sponsors. The centre also raises funds by offering daytime courses for which the schools pay.
