The Reading FC ladies' team has played two games so far this season, and they are top of the FA Tesco Women's Premier League for the first time in their history.
First of all they won down at Portsmouth, Francesca Kirby scoring the opener on the half hour mark - her first goal for the women's team since stepping up from our youth team section - but Portsmouth made it 1-1 just before the break. The Royals controlled the second half and, with 66 minutes played, they got the winner they deserved; Danielle Puddefoot bagging the match-winner to cap a great start to the new season with three points.
Then this weekend they hosted Crystal Palace at our new home ground at Tadley Calleva FC's Barlows Park in Hampshire. The game started at a frantic pace with our girls dominant in possession. Francesca Kirby was again having a real impact with her pace and technical ability and the visiting keeper had to be in fine form.
We hit both the post and bar before the hour mark, and substitute Kelly Sims made a key difference, beating two people and winning a penalty when her cross was handled. Amy Shaw stroked home, and it was a cracking win for our team.
