Dave Kitson was left dumbstruck after his sending off at Manchester United.
The striker had only been on the pitch for 37 seconds when referee Rob Styles showed him a straight red for a challenge on Patrice Evra.
Kitson spoke to our online TV station Reading World after the game, and he said, "I just couldn't believe it
"My game is about closing people down, trying to win the ball for the team and trying to score goals.
"The irony is I put the ball out of play for the throw in, that was my only touch.
"I'm absolutely distraught.
"I've seen it on the TV and it looks bad. But I can categorically say I was trying to block the ball.
"I'm trying to block Evra from clearing the ball, that's what I was put on the pitch to do.
"I was not put on there to hurt anyone.
"You've seen me in enough games, I close the ball down, that's what I do. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you miss.
"Evra cleared the ball up the pitch, I was trying to stop that, and on the follow-through he kicked the underside of my foot, or I connected with his foot, whatever way you want to look at it.
"Unfortunately I don't think there's much use in pursuing an appeal.
"Although I have to say that's not my personal point of view. I think there'd be a point in appealing because it's an accident.
"If Rob [Styles] was in my company for two minutes I could explain, and I'm sure he would have second thoughts."
There is more from Kits in the interview, including:
-Why he would implore the referee to look at it again
-What he would have done if he was in Rob Styles' position
-Why our defensive gameplan is perfectly justifiable
-How Alex Ferguson will be 'frustrated as hell'
