A stern presence in goal, Al Habsi began his career in his native Oman before a three year spell with Norwegian side Lyn Oslo where he became the first Omani to play international football in Europe.

In 2006 he made the move to England to join Premier League Bolton – although he’d have to wait just over a year to make his debut for the Trotters in an extra-time win over Fulham in the Carling Cup.

Having resided between the sticks against Bayern Munich in a UEFA Cup at the Allianz Arena, Al Habsi progressed to a loan spell with Wigan where he made his first Premier League start for a club that he would go on to spend five years with as a player.

After being named the Latics’ Player of the Season during his first year on-loan at the DW, he made the transfer permanent the following season signing a four year deal.

After over 100 league games for Wigan and an FA Cup winner in 2013, the talented Omani international became Reading’s fifth signing of the 2015 summer transfer window.

He made his debut for Reading in our Capital One Cup fixture with Colchester, and his first league start came in a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough later in October.

By the end of 2015/16 Al Habsi’s performances in goal prompted him to be voted as the club’s Player of the Season come May, a deserved award for a player of his standards.
