An exciting England youth international, Obita came through the Reading Academy ranks and represented the first team aged just 16. Within weeks of becoming a full time scholar, he was in the squad for a League Cup game at Torquay and came off the bench in extra-time.
Obita sparkled in pre-season ahead of the 2011/12 campaign and spent the majority of that season on loan at Barnet and Gillingham perfecting his natural born talent.
He made his first league start for the Royals in a 3-1 Championship victory away at Derby County in 2012/13 and then made substitute appearances against Birmingham and Burnley in the next two weeks.
His breakthrough season was in the 2013/14, scoring his first senior Reading goal in a thrilling 3-2 away win at Nottingham Forest that November. He impressed all year in an unfamiliar left back position which he made his own picking up the official Player of the Season award as a result.
After establishing himself as a key member of the first team, he clinched a place in Gareth Southgate's final England U21 squad of the 2014 season, for a Euro qualifier in Wales and the Toulon Tournament in France that May.
By the end of 2015/16 Obita had made over 100 league appearances for the Royals, and has come a long way since his debut way back in 2010.
