Eric Obinna

Date of birth

Starting his youth career in England, Obinna joined Arsenal in 1998, aged 17. A product of their youth system, he first tasted senior team football whilst on loan with French Ligue 1 side Saint-Étienne.

After a handful of appearances, he went on to play for several lower league French teams before arriving back in England to sign a short-term contract with Championship side Reading in August 2005.

Obinna’s debut for the club came away against Coventry and then a week later, made his Madejski Stadium bow in our 1-0 win against Crewe.

He appeared 2(+6) times in a Royals’ shirt, with both starts coming in our Carling Cup fixtures of that season, 1-0 and 2-0 wins respectively against Luton and Sheffield United.

Leaving the club midway through our 2005/06 record breaking campaign, the Nigerian striker went on to join Conference side Stevenage until the end of the season, playing nine times in total for the Boro.

Spells in Italy, South Korea, Singapore and then Malta all followed for Obinna. In 2010, the 33-year old won the last club honour of his career, the Singapore League Cup with Étoile FC.
