Having started his career at his home town club Luton, Williams was signed by joint player-managers Jimmy Quinn and Mick Gooding on a free transfer after a brief loan spell at Colchester United had ended his Hatters stay.
Bought as a winger, the pacy 5’10” forward was converted into an out and out striker at Reading and he topped the Royals’ goal scoring charts with 11 goals in Madejski Stadium’s inaugural season.
He made 127 League appearances in total and scored 26 times before a sequence of injuries interrupted his Royals progress.
In 2000 he signed for our M4 counterparts Swindon Town, having scored 29 goals in just over 100 starts for the club.
He enjoyed short stints at Peterborough and Stevenage Borough before ending his career with a series of non-league clubs including Woking and Maidenhead.
