A prolific Championship goal scorer, Vydra’s career began in the Czech Republic before transferring to the Serie A to play for Italian side Udinese.

In July 2012 he signed on loan for Watford, committed for the 2012/13 Championship season. 22 goals in 47 appearances helped the Hornets on their way to a play-off final challenge although narrowly missed out on promotion in extra time to Crystal Palace at Wembley.

Winning the Championship Player of the Season that year, Vydra spent the next on loan to Steve Clarke’s West Bromwich Albion, although injury hampered with his playing time out on the Hawthorns pitch. He then returned to Watford last season, scoring another 16 goals as the Hornets were promoted back to the Premier League.

All in all, Vydra has scored 36 goals in 58(+25) league games for Watford, and overall has a total of 40 goals to his name in 72(+45) domestic league encounters.

Reading Football Club announced the season-long loan signing of highly-rated Czech international striker Matej Vydra in the summer of 2015. The 23-year-old signed from Premier League side Watford after helping the Hornets secure promotion from the SkyBet Championship in 2014/15.

He made his Madejski Stadium debut against Ipswich Town in September as the Royals scored five past Mick McCarthy’s in form side. Later in October he netted his first for the club back at the Madejski, levelling the scores against league leaders Brighton in the 78th minute.

He has since left RG2 to join Derby County.
