Nick Blackman

Date of birth

Blackman began his professional career with Macclesfield Town, having graduated from their Academy he made his debut for the club at the age of 17 and scored his first goal in only his second appearance for the Silkmen.

A promising young talent, Premier League Blackburn acted quickest to bring the forward to Ewood Park in January 2009.

Impressing at reserve team level, Blackman was sent out on several successful loan spells to further develop his eye for goal.

Starting off with Blackpool, he then moved to Oldham in League One before crossing north of the border into the SPL to spend half a season each with Motherwell and Aberdeen.

Scoring 10 times in 15(+3) appearances for Well, including a spectacular header against Rangers at Ibrox, there were plenty of clubs back in England looking to cash in on Blackman’s signature.

Sheffield United were at the head of that queue, the Bury-born left footer made the switch to Bramall Lane in August 2012 signing on a two-year deal.

He made just 32(+1) appearances for the Blades in his debut season, scoring 14 goals between August and January.

An impressive performance against the Royals in our FA Cup fourth round clash that New Year’s month was to be his final outing for United – just four days later Blackman signed for our then Premier League outfit on a three-and-a-half year contract.

He made his bow for the club at Madejski Stadium in our 2-1 win over Sunderland and went on to make 58(+55) appearances, notching 22 times before a move to the East Midlands with Derby County during the 2015/16 winter transfer window.
