Vito Mannone

Date of birth

A proven player at both Premier League and Championship level, goalkeeper Vito Mannone joined the Royals in July 2017 to become the club's first ever Italian player.

Mannone started life in England at Arsenal's academy, and was capped at U21 level for his native Italy.

The goalkeeper made his Gunners debut in a 4-1 win against Stoke City in 2009, but found himself down the pecking order at the Emirates and gained regular first team football with loan spells at Barnsley and Hull City.

A permanent spell at Sunderland followed, where he became a cult hero among their fans and will be remembered for famously keeping out Manchester United in a penalty shootout in the League Cup, sending the Black Cats to Wembley in 2014.

The club's Player of the Season and Supporters' Player of the Season awards followed for Mannone that season, and stayed at the Stadium of Light before his move to the Royals in the summer of 2017.
