Álex Fernández

Date of birth

Born in Madrid, Fernandez joined Real’s youth system at a young age and progressed through their world famous Academy alongside his brother Nacho.

He made 32 appearances for Real Castilla in Liga Adelante in Spain, scoring three times, making the single appearance for Los Blancos in La Liga under the watchful eye of Jose Mourinho.

In 2013 La Liga rivals Espanyol swayed the midfielder to join their ranks, and he played 31 times over the following two seasons. Then in January 2015, Fernandez joined Rijek on loan and found the net twice in only a duo of appearances.

He signed a season-long loan with the Royals from Espanyol at the start of the 2015/16 campaign. Earlier in the summer he had represented the La Liga side at Madejski Stadium in a pre-season friendly.

He made his debut at the Mad Stad for the home side in August, replacing Stephen Quinn in the heart of midfield during our score draw with MK Dons.
