David Meyler

Date of birth

Republic of Ireland

Beginning his career with his hometown club Cork City, a teenage Meyler made the trip across the Irish Sea to sign for Sunderland in July 2008, making his debut against Blackburn in December 2009.

Injury got in the way of playing time at the Stadium of Light, making only 25 league appearances before joining up with his former Black Cats boss Steve Bruce at Hull City in 2012.

Initially a loan deal, Meyler signed in permanent terms that summer after helping the Tigers to achieve automatic promotion and went on to score his first goal in the Premier League against Liverpool in December.

Two more goals in the quarter-final and semi-finals of the FA Cup aided Hull in reaching the final against Arsenal at Wembley that year.

Meyler was also an integral part of the Hull side that achieved an immediate return to the topflight after relegation in 2014-15 by beating Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at Wembley.

In 2018 the Republic of Ireland international joined Reading in the summer and made his debut for the Royals in the season opener against Derby.

It was one of five appearances he made in blue and white before joining Coventry on loan for the second half of the season.
