Oliver Norwood

Date of birth

Northern Ireland

Spotted by Manchester United scouts when he was just six, Norwood joined the club from the age of seven and became a trainee with the Reds in July 2007.

After appearing for the U18s squad throughout the next two years, the club gave the midfielder a professional contract in the summer of 2009, as he made the step-up into the reserve side.

Earning a call up for Northern Ireland in August 2010, Norwood spent a month’s loan with Carlisle before joining Scunthorpe United on loan at the start of the 2011/12 League One season.

He scored his first professional goal that October in a 2-2 draw against future employers Huddersfield Town.

After making 16(+2) appearances for the Iron, he returned to Manchester in January, but was soon on the move again as Coventry City completed a deadline day swoop, bringing the 20-year-old to the Ricoh Arena on loan for the remainder of the season.

After returning to Old Trafford that May, Norwood decided to turn down the offer of a new contract in pursuit of first team football – that endeavour brought him to the John Smith's Stadium where he signed a three-year contract with Huddersfield Town in June.

Two season’s spent with the Terriers saw him net nine times in 83(+7) appearances from midfield, six of which came during the 2013/14 season.

In August 2014, Reading boss Nigel Adkins made the move to sign Norwood for an undisclosed fee.  Bringing him in to bolster our midfield he was handed the number six shirt that had previously been occupied by another Northern Irish midfield maestro, Chris Baird.

He made his Royals debut away to Nottingham Forest two days after penning a contract, but a Madejski Stadium bow would have to wait until our 3-0 victory over Fulham three weeks later.

Norwood has only scored two thus far in a Reading shirt; the first being a cleverly struck free-kick that spurred a 2-1 FA Cup comeback against Cardiff, and the second in the shape of a 25-yard driven strike against Rotherham.
