Date of birth
A former student of the Australian Institute of Sport, in April 2011 Edwards joined our Academy alongside his brother Cameron, having already represented his country at U20s level.
In February 2013, the midfielder was loaned out to League Two side Fleetwood Town. He made his professional footballing debut against Aldershot, one of nine appearances made for the Cod Army before returning back to the Royals in the summer.
At the start of the 2013/14 season, Edwards flew down under to embark on a season-long loan deal with A-League side Perth Glory – who at the time were being managed by his father Alistair.
While at the Glory, he played alongside his brother Cameron who had also joined the club that year. After appearing in 6(+3) games he came back to England, ready to feature in the Reading first team at the start of the following season.
On 9th August 2014, Edwards made his Royals bow against Wigan at the DW Stadium. After that 2-2 draw, the ensuing Tuesday he made his Madejski stadium debut in our fixture against Newport County in the Capital One Cup.
He played in the majority of the following fixtures, racking up 5(+5) appearances up until November. He then started to fall down the pecking order and the appointment of new boss Steve Clarke in December meant that due to newly brought in competition, a place within the first team was looking less and less likely.
At the end of the 2014/15 season, the club revealed that they wouldn’t be renewing Edwards’s contract.
He now finds himself a free agent and looking for a new club and the next step in his footballing career.
