Sekou Baradji

Date of birth

Born in France, Baradji started his youth career with Le Mans and progressed through their ranks to play for the senior team from 2003.

After making a handful of appearances for the Ligue 1 side, he made the trip across the channel to sign a deal with West Ham United on transfer deadline day.

The Hammers immediately loaned the midfielder out to Championship side Reading, with the Frenchman joining our ranks for the duration of three months.

In that time, Baradji played just three games in a Royals’ shirt. One as a sub, with the other two as part of the starting line-up in our Carling Cup fixtures – his debut at Madejski Stadium against Luton in September, and then a month later in a 2-0 win against Sheffield United.

Upon release from West Ham, Baradji played his football back in France for a while. In 2010 he attempted a return to England by going on trial with Premier League club Wigan Athletic.

He played for the Latics in their pre-season friendly with Oldham and travelled out to Australia with the team to play in their 4-1 victory over NK Rudar.

Unfortunately though the trial didn’t result in a transfer and after a spell in Israel with Hapoel, Baradji moved back to his homeland to play for Ligue 2 Valenciennes at the start of the 2014/15 season.
