An U21s Netherlands international, Nathan Aké joined the Royals on an initial one-month loan deal in March 2015.
On arrival to Madejski Stadium, the 20-year-old defender brought with him plenty of experience, having played in the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, and the FA Cup.
Born in Den Haag, Aké started his career in 2007 within the youth setup at Feyenoord, before moving to Chelsea’s Academy at the age of 15.
Prior to making his Blues debut in December 2012, he had already achieved two UEFA U17s Championships with the Dutch national side and an FA Youth Cup with the Chelsea Reserves.
Making his Premier League bow for Rafael Benitez’s side at the age of 17, Aké progressed to become a permanent member of the Chelsea first team squad.
In his debut season he made six appearances, which included starting in a Europa League quarter-final and picking up a winner’s medal in the same competition as an unused sub.
In the summer of 2013 he signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, and under José Mourinho’s management last season has made his Champions League debut against NK Maribor and picked up two more medals after the Blues’ Capital One Cup victory and Premier League triumph.
His time as a Royal spanned over the month of April, making his debut in our 1-1 draw at Madejski Stadium. Aké made five starts in a Reading shirt before returning to Stamford Bridge at the end of the month. He now plies his trade at AFC Bournemouth.
