Tyson joined Reading’s Academy in 1999 as a school boy, attending the Forest School in Winnersh.
Aged 17 he made his debut for the first team that April in our 1-1 draw against Bury. In order to improve in his ability he was sent out on loan spells to Swansea and Cheltenham, returning to Berkshire ready for the 2002/03 season.
He picked up 26 appearances from September to May, scoring his one and only Royals goal at Madejski Stadium in December.
He opened the scoring after five minutes to help the Royals to a 2-1 victory over relegation threatened Derby County. He played just nine games at the start of the following season before a loan move to Wycombe Wanderers transpired early in January 2004.
The deal was made permanent in March, signing a two-year contract believed to be around the £100,000 mark.
In the 2004/05 season Tyson became top-scorer for the Chairboys, notching 22 league goals and earing the fans’ Player of the Season award after starting 40 of the 46 league matches.
The Reading Academy graduate continued his fine form into the start of the next campaign, after netting 13 in 19 games he was at that moment the top scorer in all of England’s top four divisions – Subsequently picking up the Player of the Month award for August.
These performances produced a move to League One side Nottingham Forest in January, the striker brought to the City Ground for a £675,000 fee.
His time as a Red saw him win a runners-up medal, finishing second to Swansea City in 2008 – Tyson’s time in the Championship saw him play as a regular with 39 appearances and seven goals following their promotional season.
His career after Forest included moves to Derby and Blackpool before most recently signing a one-year deal with Doncaster Rovers in July 2014.
