Date of birth
Henry began his footballing adventure by joining the Royals’ Academy set-up. Having grown up in Woodley and attended Waingles Collage in Wokingham, he turned down interest from Chelsea to sign on a full-time basis here in the summer of 2005.
Progressing into the first team, Henry made his debut for the club during the 2007/08 season. After returning from a loan spell with Nottingham Forest, he was introduced to the Madejski as a substitute for Sean Long in our Carling Cup fixture against Liverpool that September.
Later the same year Henry was loaned out to Bournemouth, who were located in League One at the time. It was during his debut for the Cherries that our Academy star scored the first of his professional goals.
Yes, that’s goal’s’ because the 6”1’ midfielder notched twice against Bristol Rovers to secure his side all three points that afternoon. He also scored again in December as part of a 3-1 win over Leyton Orient on Boxing Day.
After ending that campaign with a loan spell at Norwich, Henry returned to the Royals and looked to have brought his goalscoring boots with him.
Inside the opening three Carling Cup fixtures of that season, he added another four goals to his tally, including two against Stoke that would see the tie all the way into extra-time and penalties.
Henry’s last two games as a Reading player materialised towards the end of the 2009/10 season. With the Royals beating Sheffield United and Peterborough 5-0 and 6-0 respectively, it was the perfect send off for our Academy graduate who opted to sign permanently for Millwall that January on the back of successful loan spells there in previous years.
He settled in quickly at The Den curtesy of turning provider for all four goals scored on his home debut against Hull City. Notching his first Lions goal later in December, Henry became a first team regular over his four season stay, making a total of 136(+28) appearances and scoring 19 goals before departing for Molineux in January 2014.
An ever present in Kenny Jackett’s side, our Academy man has certainly found his feet since departing Madejski stadium all those years ago. A hit with the Wolves fans, he is contracted to the club until the end of the 2015/16 season.
