It is the start of a new Portuguese project in Reading Football Club's history but it begins in one of the toughest environments that the Championship has to offer...
Millwall vs Reading
Wednesday 26th December
Sky Bet Championship
The start of a new era in Royals history begins on Boxing Day as newly-appointed manager José Gomes takes his squad into battle against Millwall on Wednesday afternoon.
And The Den is sure to deliver a 'blood and thunder' introduction to English football to our Portuguese boss on Boxing Day.
The two teams go into the penultimate matchday of 2018 level on points, separated only on goal difference. So if you can have a 'six pointer' in December...this clash could be categorised as one.
The Lions show promise in front of their own fans. All five of their wins this season have come on home turf - and Neil Harris' side have beaten Aston Villa and Derby County and also held league leaders Leeds United at The Den to date.
The Royals meanwhile have won just once on the road this season, beating Preston North End at Deepdale back in September. Both teams go into the game on the back of defeats - Reading edged out by Middlesbrough while Millwall were narrowly beaten at Stoke on Saturday.
And the new manager will have to deal with something of an injury crisis in defence - young Academy graduate Gabe Osho won his first team debut and performed well against Boro at the weekend - and he may be needed once more on Wednesday as injury concerns over Liam Moore, Paul McShane, Tiago Ilori and Tom McIntyre continue. John O'Shea was back in the matchday squad on Saturday so could be an alternative for Gomes.

"There are some good players at the club and there's a spirit and togetherness so that's encouraging. The boys are ready to work - and have been working well - so there are some promising signs.
"They have to stick together as they are a lot of games coming up. There are lot of points to fight for so I told them 'bounce' quickly, don't dwell on anything in terms of disappointment after a game. There is a focus to get back out there already." Caretaker Manager, Scott Marshall
"Performance-wise, Saturday was very good. I said to the players that the level of performance today, and in the second half at Preston, is what we take into next week - which is massive for us now.
"We have three huge games over the Christmas and New Year period, and we need to be winning games now." Millwall manager, Neil Harris
