Despite there being 18 games left in the Championship season, with plenty of time to climb the table, Tuesday night's match between the Royals and Bolton Wanderers is one that could give either club a vital set of points in the fight to climb out of the bottom three.
The two sides are separated by only one point as it stands in the league table - a win for José Gomes and his squad at the University of Bolton Stadium would see the Royals leapfrog Rotherham United to climb out of the relegation zone.
Phil Parkinson's side have shown themselves to be difficult opponents this season, however. Their visit to Madejski Stadium back in August saw them earn a gritty 1-0 win against the Royals, but they are winless in their last four matches in the Championship.
Reading have bolstered their ranks with the arrival of five loanees in January - three of which will be eligible to make their debuts on Tuesday night.
Lewis Baker and Ovie Ejaria have already played their first minutes in the blue and white hoops, with Nélson Oliveira, Emiliano Martínez and Matt Miazga having spent time training with their new teammates ahead of this midweek trip to Lancashire.
Gomes confirmed that skipper, Paul McShane is back in training and building up match fitness, while he will still be without John O'Shea and Tom McIntyre through injury. Yakou Méïté and Saeid Ezatolahi are also sidelined.
There has been an unusual 10-day gap between Reading's last league match due to Bolton's involvement in the Emirates FA Cup at the weekend, but Gomes and his players have been putting in the hard work at Hogwood instead to try and get all three points on Tuesday night.
Advance tickets remain on sale for this fixture until midday on Tuesday 29th January, with Adult tickets priced at £15 for our trip to Bolton.
Tickets will be available on the night with no increase on advance prices, from a cash only turnstile in Block F of the South Stand at the University of Bolton Stadium.
