Reading's U18s got past Southampton with a 1-0 win in the Premier League Cup on Saturday at Hogwood.
Samuel Faniyan's strike mid-way through the second half was enough for the young Royals to take victory at the weekend, withstanding late pressure to earn the win.
Following defeat against Norwich City and a draw away at Manchester City in this competition, the Royals rounded off the group stages with a victory.
Next up for the young Royals is a tie in the FA Youth Cup against Millwall at Madejski Stadium next week in the Third Round.
Following the match, U18s' manager David Dodds said: "We played Southampton two or three weeks ago and, although we dominated possession, but didn't create an awful lot.
"This time, we actually addressed that and we created quite a lot in the first half. They missed a debatable penalty in the first half, but we continued to create chances.
"Then in the second half, we scored after a good little cross by Jack Nolan on his right foot, across the face and we got up at the back post and scored.
"We had a couple of little chances to put the game to bed, they hit the bar late on when they kept putting the ball forward later on.
"It was good, 1-0 and the lads played well for about an hour then Southampton threw caution to the wind late on and threw a few bodies.
"It was one of those where you wonder whether to stick or twist, we stuck and the boys defended well for the last little bit. It was a pleasing performance with a lot of young lads getting blooded in the team.
"We've got an Under-23s match where four lads will be involved, against Bayern Munich so a nice easy one!
"We should get them back on Saturday and start our prep for Millwall next Thursday. I think the FA Youth Cup is one of the closest games in making your debut for the first team, there's a lot of hype around it, sometimes the management are there watching with the hierarchy and there's a little bit of pressure on it - it'll be interesting to see how they react to it."
