Reading's U18s fell to a 4-0 defeat at Fulham on Saturday morning in the U18 Premier League.
With the FA Youth Cup in mind in midweek, the Royals made wholesale changes and gave chances to younger players to show themselves at U18 level.
However, a fine individual performance from Fabio Carvahlo, that included a hat-trick and an assist, sealed the points for the Cottagers.
The Royals came close to scoring in the first half with the teams goalless, Michael Cuse improvising to shoot acrobatically, but he couldn't turn his shot on target.
Carvahlo got on the scoresheet for the first time four minutes before the break, Jokull Andresson doing well to block a Fulham shot before Carvahlo slotted in the rebound.
His second came early on in the second period, beating Andresson with an effort into the top corner, and the game was put out of reach for the Royals soon after as Carvahlo turned provider for Fulham's Elliott to smash home from six yards.
Reading had the chance to open their account for their day from the penalty spot, but could not convert as they remained scoreless on the day.
Carvahlo scored his third 15 minutes from time, scoring from the spot himself after the referee adjudged handball from a hooped shirt.
Reading U18: J Andresson, Pemberton, Abbey, Carsar, Saydee, Sole, Putz, Hanson, Cuse, Murray, Stevens (Osario 65').
