The Royals’ Under-23 squad came from two goals down to register a terrific 4-2 victory against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon in Premier League 2.
All six goals came before the break in an action-packed first period.
A quieter second half saw neither goalkeeper beaten – that suited the Royals down to the ground as it allowed them to claim all three points and rise to fourth in the PL2 table.
The game didn’t start in an ideal manner for Scott Marshall’s charges – the game was just seven minutes old when Elias Sorensen struck the Magpies’ first of the game.
And before the midpoint of the half, the Danish youth international had his and Newcastle’s second as it threatened to pull away of the Royals’ grasp.
But captain Gabriel Osho, twice a scorer last weekend against the Magpies’ rivals Sunderland, stepped up again and grabbed once back just two minutes later.
Reading then turned a deficit into a lead with a quick-fire pair of goals, just two minutes apart. Ben House struck first to level, before Danny Loader completed the turnaround – just 34 minutes on the clock at that point.
Then, in first-half stoppage time, Loader netted his second to continue the Royals’ momentum and ensure some daylight between the two teams.
With little to write home about after the break, the fixture ended 4-2 in Reading’s favour and ensured back-to-back victories in the league.
