Reading U23s put in an awe-inspiring display to end their four-game winless run, as they convincingly beat Wolverhampton Wanderers U23s with a thumping 5-0 win at Bearwood Park.
Strikers Femi Azeez (2) and Jayden Onen were both on target for their eighth goals of the Premier League 2 season, while Tennai Watson also found the net in a rout that saw Wolves defender Pascal Estrada convert into his own net.
Under a minute after the referee's whistle got proceedings underway, the Royals got off to the perfect start. Onen raced onto a finely aimed ball from Ryan East before blasting a left-footed effort beyond Young in the Wolves net.
Just as they did in the first minute of the half, Reading notched in the final minute, as East again turned orchestrator, he fired a ball towards Onen who crossed back into the area from the byline towards Azeez - he got a foot to the ball, firing against the post only for his effort to hit the backtracking Estrada and find its way in.
Half-time: Reading U23 2-0 Wolves U23
17 minutes after the restart, the young Royals made it three. East's drilled effort from 20 yards was palmed away by Young, but only into the path of right-back Watson who followed up to slot home from a tight angle at close range.
Azeez's hard work throughout was finally rewarded after 83 minutes with what would be the first of two goals for the 19-year-old in the space of four minutes.
Claudio Osorio fired a long ball towards the striker who's initial effort wasn't held by Young, the keeper who had rushed out, was caught off his line and Azeez composed himself before lobbing the ball into an empty net to make it four.
The afternoon went from bad to worse for the visitors just moments later, as Azeez was again on target with his side's fifth. This time he needed no help from his teammates, as he raced clear down the right before cutting inside and powering a left-footed shot beneath Young from 20 yards, sparking a pile-on from his teammates in celebration.
In truth it could have been even more for the Royals who saw an Azeez effort cleared off the line in the second-half, a desperate block from Wolves denying him a hat-trick.
