Women sting Hornets in Continental Cup win!

Royals continue fine form to kick off cup campaign with resounding 4-0 victory!

2 November 2017

Reading Women cruised to a 4-0 win against Watford Ladies in the Continental Cup thanks to goals from Fara Williams, Molly Bartrip, Kirsty Linnett and an own goal from the hosts.

The Royals went into the FAWSL Continental Tyres Cup clash ar Adams Park off the back of a 5-0 win at Bristol City at the weekend and Kelly Chambers' side started the match brightly with an early goal after Lauren Bruton’s crafty throughball found the advancing Fara Williams, who slotted the ball past Fran Kitching to score her third goal in four games.

Anna Green saw plenty of the ball on the left flank and was able to frequently supply crosses into the Watford penalty area, but it was goalscorer Fara Williams whose corner found the head of Molly Bartrip and it was Bartrip who powered the ball into the back of the net...a rare goal for the 20 year-old.

Half-time saw Chambers make two changes, midfielder Remi Allen replaced by Brooke Chaplen, and full back Rachel Rowe making way for the fit again Becky Jane. And shortly after the hour mark, Reading made it 3-0.

Linnett wriggled herself out of a dead-end to skip through multiple Watford defenders, before passing the ball right into the bottom corner, leaving Kitching a spectator in the Watford goal.

Women rout Bristol City 5-0

30 October 2017

Fara Williams continued to put in an impressive display, nearly turning provider once more as her cross found Rachel Furness - whose header looped onto the crossbar.

Watford chances were few and far between, but the Hornets came closest to scoring when Rinsola Babajide raced through on goal, curling her shot around Grace Moloney and onto the post.

But the home side added a fourth in stoppage time when another delightful cross by Green was flicked on by Williams, before diverting into the back of the net off a Watford defender’s leg for 4-0.

“It’s another four goals and a clean sheet for us with a number of changes to the starting 11 over the last couple of weeks, which I’m pleased with," Chambers said after the win.

"We have great momentum at the minute, we’ve been scoring goals and keeping clean sheets, and we need to continue that especially against Arsenal on Sunday!”

"It's nice to score again. In the last two games we’ve earned clean sheets - that’s what we are looking for. And at the other end we’ve scored nine goals in the last couple of games with a number of different goalscorers too! Things are clicking and hopefully that can continue.”
