Midfielder makes permanent move
Reading FC have today agreed the transfer of Michail Antonio to Sheffield Wednesday on a permanent deal.
Antonio impressed in a loan spell with at Hillsborough during the 2011/12 campaign, scoring five times in 14 appearances as he helped the Owls to promotion back to the Championship.
He first arrived at Madejski Stadium in 2008, after club scouts tracked his progress in non-league football with Tooting & Mitcham.
Michail adapted well to professional football and continued his development at Hogwood Park whilst also enjoying loan spells at Cheltenham, Colchester and Southampton –scoring in the Saints’ Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory at Wembley in March 2010.
However with Brian McDermott’s squad boasting a wealth of talent in wide positions, the 22-year-old has found first team opportunities limited with the Royals – and departs having made 4(+24) league appearances for the club, scoring once.
Director of Football Nick Hammond said: “It’s a good move for Michail, he’s going to a big club with good people – and he did a great job for them last year.
“He wants to play regularly and we understand that, so this is a good deal for both parties, we wish him all the best. “
