Royals owner puts nerves to one side
Anton Zingarevich admits that his nerves are starting to kick in ahead of the Premier League curtain raiser with Stoke City this weekend.
Nevertheless with just days to go before the big kick off, the Royals owner says he will be bursting with pride when Brian McDermott’s men begin their top flight campaign on Saturday afternoon.
“I will be proud as the Premier League is where I have always wanted to be. We now have to prove to everyone that we’re the club that will stay in the Premier League,” he said.
“I was edgy for some of the games last season but I’m sure I’ll get used to it! Hopefully we’ll get off to a good start to calm the nerves. I have to look at it a little bit differently now – if I watch it as if I’m a fan then I’d have a heart attack!”
Anton has also paid tribute to Sir John Madejski, and reinforced the vital role that the Chairman still plays at the club.
"He has done great things for the club. He is the reason for much of the club’s success and I have a lot of respect for him. He understands what I’m trying to do, I enjoy working with him and we have a good relationship. Because I’m not going to be there all of the time, it’s important to still have someone there who is so dedicated.”
