Royals skipper determined not to hold back
Captain Jobi McAnuff says the Royals will kick off their Premier League campaign with no fear, as they take on Stoke City this Saturday.
Reading’s skipper will relish the challenge more than anyone, as he prepares to play the first top flight game of an 11-year professional career.
“Growing up as a kid the aim is to get into the Premier League,” he said.
“We’ve got as much right to be here as anyone else, it’s a great chance to go and show that to everybody. These are exciting times – we want to embrace it, we can’t wait to go out there and give it a good crack.
“We’ve been flying about in training and looking sharp – we’ve had a good pre-season and we’re ready to crack on this Saturday. Our ambitions go as far as wining the next game – that’s been our motto over the last couple of years and it’s something we’re keen to stick to.
“We want to do as well as we can, there’s no fear – of course we respect the great talent and clubs that are in this league but we’re going to go out to win every game.”
After a number of new additions to the squad this summer, McAnuff has echoed his manager’s sentiments in expressing satisfaction at the state of the squad.
“Everyone we’ve brought in has been a great addition, and they’re settling in well. We’ve got Pavel up front – he’s a big lad, with a great touch and a great eye for goal. Just like the rest of them he’s fitted into the ethos at the club and the way we play – which is imperative.”
