New matchday programme launches

This weekend, we launch our brand new official matchday programme for the Royals brand new Barclays Premier League season – and this first issue is not one to be missed!

This season, ‘The Royal’ has gone perfect bound, meaning it will have a spine for the first time in Reading programme history! Also - collect every issue this season and stand them on a bookshelf in order, the spines will come together to form a photo of Madejski Stadium!

Inside, there is even more to be excited about. There is a brand new feel to the first issue – including something for everyone!

The Young Royals section this season has unbelievable competition prizes to give away – this first issue offers our young supporters a chance to be the mascot for the Fulham game and a new away shirt signed by star striker Jason Roberts is also up for grabs! For the older generation, ‘Back In My Day’ and ‘Making A Connection’ take us back in time to previous meetings with our opponents and bizarre connections between the two clubs throughout history.

In our first issue we have in-depth features on our squad’s Premier League experience compared to the last time we were promoted, on which Premier League players were kept busy this summer with Euro 2012 and the Olympics, and on Andy Bernal – who speaks about his life after leaving the Royals back in 2000.

Our statistical analysis has delved deeper – we analyse the record our opponents have against newly-promoted teams for example. Our interview scope is wider, as we include two exclusive first team interviews in each issue – Mikele Leigertwood and Brynjar Gunnarsson speak in Saturday’s issue. And our images throughout each issue will be stronger – in this first issue we have a some superb previously unseen imagery from the club’s history, as well as all the best photos from every moment we need to remember this season.

Noel Hunt is put ‘On The Spot’, revealing the trivial such as whether he prefers The Office to the Inbetweeners, and also tackling the big issues, such as what he would have done if it were he and not Thierry Henry tempted to handball it home to help his country qualify.

The Chairman, the manager and the captain all write their first top flight programme notes, looking ahead to what lies in wait for us in 2012/13. We have all the information on our opponents, Stoke City, ticket news on how you can still get by a seat at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night,  and a full fixture list for our new Premier League campaign.

The new Under-21 League is explained, as is our Academy partnership with The Forest School, we bring you the latest from a hard-hitting drugs talk delivered by our Kickz scheme to local school children, and we also feature some of the best tweets and facebook posts from you, the supporters, in the run up to this weekend’s curtain-raiser.

‘The Royal’ has fewer adverts than last season – so your programme is jam-packed with content. And this weekend we are also selling a limited number of photo programmes called ‘The Gallery’ which bring you an eclectic selection of snapshots from throughout the Royal’s summer, relevant moments from our past, and a few from last season’s success of course! This will be available on a first come, first served basis for an additional price of £2.

The matchday programme itself remains only £3 this season – and is excellent value for money. In short, this season is a great time to collect programmes – don’t miss the first issue this weekend!
